The holidays are meant to be celebrated with those we love.  If we are fortunate, we look forward to getting together with our families.  But, just because we are family doesn’t mean that we don’t have to put thought and energy into how to best to enjoy ourselves. If your family gatherings feel more conflicted than connected, one of the most important things you can do for yourself is stay committed to your own self-care.  If certain people push your buttons, prepare yourself emotionally before you go. Give yourself permission to take breaks. Be proactive about the situations and people that because you stress. Moderate your food and alcohol consumption and keep yourself in a healthy zone.  Find something positive in the environment that you can connect too and if all else fails, take a walk outside. Teach yourself that you will honor and care for your needs and that you are in control of you. #empowerment
